At the heart of this personal found footage film are the enigmatic events that led to saving an important piece of family history from being lost forever. Rustic VHS home video of a Cree woman hunting caribou in the 1990s is combined with NFB films of northern Manitoba from the 1940s-70s, commenting on what becomes part of official history and archives, and what does not.
ABOUT THE PAIRING:
Preceding Rustic Oracle, a film which chronicles an unresolved, traumatic family loss, Caribou in the Archives explores long-term reverberations of absence, touching on themes of impermanence, memory, and coping with the march of time.
