One of the most clever, appealing, and eccentric romantic comedies you will ever see, Love Can’t Wait is marvel in miniature, a valentine to love, to lovers, and to cinema itself. Viri is the owner of the video store ‘Amores,’ one of the very few left in Mexico City. It’s her birthday, but it’s a rather sad occasion, as no one seems to have remembered. Just before closing time, regular customer Agustin arrives to rent an older title that will require some searching through the shelves to locate. While Viri and Agustin banter and look for that obscure film at the back of the store, an employee closes up, thinking ’Amores’ is now empty. When they discover they are temporarily locked in, Viri and Agustin begin to talk about life, love, and, of course, the movies. As they do, surprising things begin to happen to the film they both inhabit. Filmed in real time and in one long take, this imaginative, inventive film reveals to this odd couple (and to us) that love happens in unexpected ways — just like in the movies!
